practical shelter innovation for disaster relief

Benefits 50

Inside temperature with just a tarpaulin

Cooler insulated shelter

The following demonstration was set up with a steel frame shelter but the same results could also be achieved with a bamboo frame shelter.

The ability to take the weight of reeds, branches or available materials makes this shelter much cooler than a tent ot tarpaulin on its own.

Benefits 53
Benefits 51

After cladding with wood, cardboard and a blanket.

Cooling the inside temperature by over 20 degrees (see prototype tests) is an important factor in reducing dehydration at a time when water resources are often limited.

Benefits 54

Demonstrating supporting wood. The weight can be evenly distributed over the frame.

Note the high quality shade cast by this roof
(unlike a tent with poor quality shade).
