practical shelter innovation for disaster relief

KEY BENEFITS OF RSK : BOTH EMERGENCY AND TRANSITIONAL SHELTER

THE RSK CAN BE EASILY UPGRADED TO A TRANSITIONAL SHELTER

The advantage that the RSK has over other types of shelter is that it is the same roof that was built on day one after the disaster that is used for the transitional shelter.

Benefits 53

The standard relief shelter starts to rapidly deteriorate after 3 months in the tropical sun. Many families remain in tents for several months and even years as they await permanent homes. The need for transitional shelter to bridge this time between tent and permanent structure remains.

The RSK offers a single step pathway to building a more permanent shelter that is not possible with tents. By using the same building materials for both types of shelter the considerable wastage that occurs today is avoided.
