SHELTER COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS.

The bamboo RSK's use of natural resources, low cost, simple skills and ability to be easily carried make it ideal for shelter Disaster Preparedness Programs (DPPs) in communities at risk from displacement by natural hazards or conflict.

We have recently demonstarted how successful DPPs based on the bamboo RSK can be in communities at risk from recurring floods in the Delta and Northern Shan regions of Myanmar.

SUSTAINABILITY.

Bamboo, can be managed as a sustainable resource with considerable benefits for the environment, especially with regard to saving of valuable timber reserves that have a far longer replenishment cycle.

Bamboo growing, harvesting, drying and storage can produce the poles for this shelter in less than 4 years. Simple treatment can prolong the storage life of bamboo poles to over 10 years.

Careful rotation of stored bamboo will ensure that none is wasted as it can be recycled for many uses including building livestock shelters.
