The Reciproboo shelter kit provides an ideal frame for hanging mosquito nets.

The frame can be adjusted and used to make a very practical mosquito net support called ReciproMal.

The Recipromal frame described below is an 8 pole lightweight version of this frame which offers great potential for hanging nets and prolonging their use in mud huts.

The problem with mud huts

Hanging a mosquito net inside a mud hut is not easy. The walls and ceilings are unsuitable for fixing nets designed to hang from single or multiple points. In addition, the inside of traditional huts are often a communal space for living, cooking and sleeping which makes the daily use of nets a problem. Mosquito nets left hanging are easily damaged by children and livestock.

A damaged net is useless for preventing malaria.

ReciproMal is a simple and economic malaria prevention kit designed for use in mud huts.

Once set up over the children’s sleeping area it provides a durable frame for supporting all types of mosquito net. In the morning it can be taken down in less than a minute and stored during the day.

In the evening, the frame can be assembled in less than a minute as the net is already attached to the frame.

As the frame has only cross lashed joints it can be easily maintained.

Costing just £3 (less than US $4) in 19mm gauge steel it is a serious option in helping control malaria especially for the more vulnerable group of pregnant women and children.
