practical shelter innovation for disaster relief

Peru Red Cross visit

On 11th August, 2014 during a visit to Peru Shaun Halbert took the opportunity to meet senior members of the Red Cross in Lima.

The meeting was chaired by Executive Director Jorge Menendez Martinez and attended by Jaime Luis Huerta Osorio and Fernando Suarez Jimenez
(Spanish Red Cross).

During the discussion it was explained that the Peru Red Cross do not use designated shelter engineers. When a disaster occurs the procedure is to request shelter ( tents and tarpaulins) direct from IFRC Geneva.

However, the Red Cross members were very interested to hear about the ReciproBoo Shelter Kit.
It is hoped that one day we can work together on using Peru bamboo resources for assembling shelter kits that could be used for local disaster preparedness initiatives.
