Bamboo ReciproBoo shelter training in Northern Shan State

The Community Development Association (CDA) have been supporting the field activities of KT Care Foundation with bamboo shelter training for communities in Naung Cho Township, Northern Shan State.

This is an extension to the bamboo shelter training project in 10 villages in Hinzada and a lead up to the Mercy Malaysia on Community Based Disaster Risk Mangement ( CBDRM ) Project for 10 villages at Kalay Townships in Sagaing Region next month.

The training was started with instructions on flip- charts and followed by practical exercises using bamboo sticks, rubber rings and paper. Participants had the opportunity to build a scale model of the elevated RSK shelter before progressing to the practical building of shelters.

The participants reported:

" this method it is very useful for them because it is not only safe and strong but also it can save the cost and materials, it is easy to build and upgrade as well"

Based on this success, the decision has been made by the CDA to include this kind of training in their future Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction activities.

I am grateful to Myat Kyaw Thein (Senior Program Officer) for organising this training and providing these photos. This initaitive shows what is possible to achieve in the field with limited resources.

Please contact me if you or your organisation would like to be involved with this work or attend our next free staff training in the bamboo RSK in Myanmar in the near future.
